FCA

Free Carrier — seller delivers to the buyer’s carrier at a named place.

Definition

FCA (Free Carrier) under Incoterms 2020 means the seller delivers goods to the carrier or another person nominated by the buyer at a named place, cleared for export when applicable. Risk usually passes on that hand-over. FCA works for any mode, unlike classic sea-only FOB.

Worked example

FCA supplier warehouse, buyer’s forwarder collects: seller packs and clears export; you control main carriage and can align cargo insurance with your policy.

Why it matters for replenishment

FCA is often more practical than EXW for container freight while still leaving main transit under buyer control.

Common questions

FCA vs FOB?

FOB is for sea/inland waterway and passes risk on board. FCA is multimodal and passes on hand-over to the carrier.

Who pays main freight under FCA?

Buyer, unless you negotiate otherwise outside the Incoterm.

Is FCA valid for air freight?

Yes — FCA is mode-agnostic.

Is FCA the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track FCA?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
