Reorder point

Stock level that should trigger your next purchase order.

Definition

The reorder point (ROP) is the on-hand (or inventory position) level at which you place a new order so replenishment arrives before you run out. It combines expected demand during lead time with safety stock.

Formula

Reorder point = (average daily demand × lead time in days) + safety stock

Worked example

Demand 12/day, lead time 30 days, safety stock 60 → ROP = 12×30 + 60 = 420 units. When sellable stock hits 420, order.

Why it matters for replenishment

ROP turns forecasts into a clear action date. Without it, teams reorder from gut feel and oscillate between stockouts and overstock.

How OmniRestock uses this

OmniRestock shows stockout and order-by dates from forecast, lead time and safety stock, then turns agreed lines into draft POs.

Common questions

Do open POs change the reorder point?

They change inventory position (on hand + on order). Count on-order stock so you do not double-order.

Is ROP a date or a quantity?

Classically a quantity. Order-by date is the calendar view of the same idea.

Does FBA use a different ROP?

FBA needs its own lead time for inbound transfers plus Amazon capacity constraints.

Is reorder point the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track reorder point?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
