ASIN

Amazon Standard Identification Number — Amazon’s catalogue ID for a product.

Definition

An ASIN is Amazon’s 10-character identifier for a product in a marketplace catalogue. Sellers map their own SKUs to ASINs (and FNSKUs for FBA). Inventory planning for Amazon still needs your SKU and warehouse view; the ASIN is how Amazon’s listing and fee tools recognise the item.

Worked example

Your SKU TEE-BLK-M maps to ASIN B0EXAMPLE01 on Amazon UK. FBA units of that ASIN also get an FNSKU barcode Amazon scans in its network.

Why it matters for replenishment

Restock limits, IPI and inbound shipments are Amazon-side. Matching ASIN ↔ SKU stops you from sending the wrong variant or double-counting demand.

How OmniRestock uses this

OmniRestock connects Amazon via SP-API and maps FBA and FBM catalogue data into your warehouse model so forecasts stay per SKU.

Common questions

Who creates ASINs?

Amazon assigns them. You create SKUs; you may request a new ASIN when listing a new product.

Can one SKU have multiple ASINs?

Sometimes across marketplaces. Treat each marketplace mapping carefully in replenishment.

Do I need the ASIN for a supplier PO?

Suppliers usually want your SKU or their part number. Keep ASIN for Amazon ops.

Is an ASIN the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track an ASIN?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
