FBA

Fulfilment by Amazon — Amazon stores and ships your inventory.

Definition

FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) means you send inventory into Amazon’s fulfilment network; Amazon picks, packs, ships and handles many returns. FBA stock is not the same pool as your own warehouse or 3PL without deliberate transfers.

Worked example

You keep bulk stock in a UK 3PL and send weekly FBA inbounds sized to velocity and restock limits, instead of parking six months in Amazon storage.

Why it matters for replenishment

FBA changes lead times, fees, storage risk and restock constraints. Replenishment must model FBA as its own stock source.

How OmniRestock uses this

OmniRestock keeps FBA as a separate warehouse/stock source, forecasts demand, and plans transfers into FBA without double-counting supplier demand.

Common questions

Is FBA inventory mine?

Yes, until sold or removed, but Amazon controls storage and fulfilment rules.

Can I fulfil Shopify from FBA?

Often via Multi-Channel Fulfilment; track that demand in velocity so forecasts stay honest.

FBA vs FBM for replenishment?

FBA needs inbound planning and capacity; FBM draws from your own warehouse pool.

Is FBA the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track FBA?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
