Stock transfer

Moving owned inventory between warehouses or into FBA.

Definition

A stock transfer moves units you already own from one location to another — for example 3PL → FBA, or warehouse A → B. It is not a purchase order.

Worked example

Send 300 units from 3PL to FBA. Own-warehouse on-hand drops, FBA inbound rises, supplier demand is unchanged.

Why it matters for replenishment

Treating transfers like purchases double-counts demand and empties the source warehouse by surprise.

How OmniRestock uses this

OmniRestock plans FBA transfers from your own warehouse while supplier POs cover total demand without double-counting the transfer leg.

Common questions

Transfer vs PO?

PO buys new stock; transfer moves owned stock.

Does transfer lead time matter?

Yes — FBA or inter-site transit belongs in that lane’s lead time.

Can transfers be one-way only?

Operationally yes; still record both locations for inventory accuracy.

Is a stock transfer the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track a stock transfer?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
