DAP

Delivered at Place — seller delivers ready for unloading at the named place; buyer clears import.

Definition

DAP (Delivered at Place) under Incoterms 2020 means the seller delivers when goods are placed at the disposal of the buyer ready for unloading at the named place of destination. The seller bears cost and risk to that point. The buyer handles import clearance and pays duties/taxes. DAP (and DPU) replace older “DDU” usage.

Worked example

DAP your Midlands 3PL: seller manages main carriage to the 3PL gate ready for unload; you clear import and pay duty. Agree who books the unloading slot with the 3PL.

Why it matters for replenishment

DAP clarifies door-ish delivery without forcing the seller to act as importer of record — useful when you want control of customs.

Common questions

Is DDU still valid?

DDU is legacy and not in Incoterms 2020. Prefer DAP or DPU.

Who unloads under DAP?

Buyer is responsible for unloading. If the seller must unload, look at DPU.

DAP vs DDP?

DDP adds import clearance and duty payment to the seller’s obligations.

Is DAP the same everywhere?

The idea is shared, but formulas and marketplace rules differ. Use the definition on this page for ecommerce replenishment.

Do I need software to track DAP?

A spreadsheet works for a few SKUs. Once you have many suppliers or channels, a replenishment tool keeps the numbers current.

Does OmniRestock change my live stock?

Not unless you switch Stock write or Purchase orders on for a connection. Drafts stay drafts until you confirm.
